Annual Hemp History Week May 2nd-8th 2011

Get involved and celebrate the 2nd annual hemp history week May 2nd-8th 2011. You're also encouraged to have your own local event as well if you wish.

On the heels of the massive earthquake and tsunami in Japan resulting in a crisis at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant which contains 6 nuclear towers on the brink of meltdown, it's time to rally for safe, sustainable and renewable energy policy in America.

Hemp must be a part of that solution. Hemp, solar nor wind power will leak radiation in the event of a natural disaster like we are currently seeing in Japan. Keep in mind that they still don't know what to do with all those used fuel rods that need stored. There are over 100 nuclear power plants just across the US alone.

In 1941 the Ford Motor Company produced an automobile with a plastic body made from sisal, wheat, and primarily (70%) hemp. The plastic withstood blows 10 times as great as steel could without denting. Its weight was 2/3 that of a regular car. Its engine was designed to run with hemp-oil fuel.

"Why use up the forests which were centuries in the making and the mines which required ages to lay down, if we can get the equivalent of forest and mineral products in the annual growth of the hemp fields?"
- Henry Ford

"The Use of vegetable oils for engine fuels may seem insignificant today. But such oils may become in course of time as important as petroleum and the coal tar products of the present time"
- Rudolph Diesel, 1912

Breakthrough in Solar Power

Engineers at Stanford have discovered a real breakthrough in solar energy resulting in the tripling of efficiency from about 31 percent to 90 percent. There is still much work to be done but at 90 percent efficiency solar power has the potential to be a serious game changer in energy policy in the US and elsewhere.
